Hannibal Parks & Rec halfway to fundraising goal for new memorial

Officials are giving an update on the process to build a new veterans memorial in Hannibal as we get our first look at a piece of it.

The memorial is set to go in at the Cardiff Hill Overlook.

It will also feature bricks with names of any veterans who have served in any way. Those will go in the ground where current bricks are.

Officials say they have sold 163 of the bricks so far and they are halfway to their $60,000 goal to build the memorial.

“We are hoping to start laying the bricks even before the fundraising is complete so you’ll be able to come up here and see bricks that are completed and see what it’s going to look like but we won’t start on the memorial until all the fundraising is completed,” said Mary Lynne Richards with the parks and rec department.

Richards said they plan to hand out order forms for the bricks at the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday.

They are selling the bricks for $125 a piece.
