Ameren Illinois wants you to know what goes on behind the scenes to make sure they’re ready when emergency strikes.

The utility company held an open house Friday with demonstrations about a variety of different kinds of emergencies. One of those, gas leaks.

Ameren officials said they want to remind customers to always contact them if you smell a gas leak.

“If they smell gas, call in, it’s absolutely essential, there’s never a charge for it, and we respond in 22 minutes to get there and make sure you’re safe,” said Ameren Illinois Operations and Technical Services Ron Pate.

Other demonstrations included downed power-line education, line work safety, and more.
