Crash involving school bus sends student to the hospital

CAMP POINT, IL (WGEM) —  A car crashed into a Central Community Unit School District # 3 bus just before 8 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Adams County Sheriff Brian VonderHaar reported that a 2004 Caddillac was following the school bus westbound on Highway 24 west of E 2700th St. when the driver attempted to pass the school bus.

VonderHaar stated that the driver lost control and struck the back-left corner of the bus. In order to maintain control, the driver of the bus dove into a field.

The crash report states that there were 36 students on the bus.

An ambulance was called to the scene after two students reported hitting their heads. One refused treatment and the other was transported to Blessing Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The car was towed from the scene with major damage, the bus was driven from the scene with minor damage.

Sheriff Brian VonderHaar stated that the driver of the car, Alan Weber, was cited with improper passing.
