Holiday shopping helps benefit Missouri foster kids

HANNIBAL (WGEM) — Over 200 people did some holiday shopping for a good cause on Saturday in Hannibal.

It was for the Holiday Bazaar, put on by Douglas Community Services Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program.

Organizers said proceeds from Saturday’s event will go to help with day-to-day activities for foster children all over northeast Missouri.

“We have two full-time staff that oversees 30 volunteers and we serve 60 kids,” said Jared Moore, event organizer and Douglas Community Services Youth Services Director. “Our hope in the next two years is to double that capacity to hire on another full-time staff member so we can serve 125 foster kids in this area.”

Moore said he hopes they were able to raise around $2,000 on Saturday.

He added they plan to make this an annual event.
