NECAC receives funds for rent assistance program

A potential lifeline for people in Northeast Missouri who are on the verge of being homeless.

NECAC officials said they have received $560,000 for their Mainstream Voucher Program.

The federal program provides rent assistance for non-elderly people with disabilities who are transitioning out of an institution along with those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

“It’s a HUD program. It’s a federal program that has the goal of helping disabled people live better lives and get out on their own. This helps them with rent assistance,” said Brent Engel with NECAC.

The vouchers will be handed out after the first of the year but officials said it’s important to get signed up for the program as soon as possible.

You can find applications for this program online or go to your local NECAC office for help.
