Quincy murder suspect case to go to grand jury

QUINCY (WGEM) — Carlos Williams, 55, of Quincy, appeared in court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing.

Williams was arrested last week and charged with three counts of First Degree Murder in the death Orlando Smith, 20, of Quincy.

Williams appeared Thursday with his appointed Public Defender Chris Pratt.

The judge said Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office will take the case to a grand jury on December 5.

Williams will appear back in court December 11 for status of arraignment.

Family members and friends of Smith were at Monday’s hearing.

Court documents state that sometime around or between May 27 and May 30 Williams strangled Smith with the intent to kill him.

Smith’s body was discovered on the side of the road in the 200 block of Koch’s Lane in Quincy on May 30, at 1 p.m.
