Local farmers have a new recourse to turn to, as there's a new educator at the University of Illinois Extension to assist farmers in Illinois.
As the new local foods and small farms educator, Katie Parker, plans to help farmers in Adams, Brown, Hancock and Schuyler counties.
She said she can help them with unbiased research, making decisions and any questions they have about production.
"Farming is their livelihood, so if you had a bad year, you don't get a pay cut, but if a farmer has a bad year, they're going to have less income, so if there's any way to help the farmers to increase their yields and increase their income, so they can grow and thrive," Parker said.
Parker said she plans to hold webinars and in-class activities for farmers to attend.
