Recreational marijuana will be legal in Illinois on January 1 but local officials said they're still working on some usage guidelines.

Officials at the Adams County States Attorneys' office said there's some areas they're still trying to address such as use on porches, in public, and around minors.

They said they're still talking with local law enforcement agencies on how they'll be dealt with.

"Obviously those things are illegal, and we just want to determine what's the best way to deal with those, how we'll charge those, what they'll look like, if we're going to charge those, if police are going to make arrests, those are all things that have to be addressed and determined," said Adams County States Attorney's Office lead trial attorney Josh Jones.

States Attorneys' officials didn't give a timeline on when more information would be available.
