Carthage city leaders are reminding people to make sure to get their Don Forsythe Citizen of the Year award nominations in before the deadline on January 3.

City leaders said nominees need to live in the Carthage Elementary School District, be at least 21 years of age and have made significant contributions.

Organizers said it's always great to recognize the winner at the annual Chamber dinner on January 30.

"It's very inspiring to see someone from our community get recognized on an annual basis because of the work they have done with non-charitable or charitable institutions," Carthage Community Development director Amy Graham said.

She said it's a high bar considering the award's namesake.

"Don Forsythe was a legend in the community of Carthage and the Kiwanis Club really felt this was a great honor; to not only recognize Don Forsythe but also to continue that tradition of recognizing individuals and the great contributions that make to the community of Carthage," she said.

All nominations can be mailed to Citizen of the Year, c/o Carthage Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 94, Carthage, IL 62321 or via email to Kiwanis President David Fox.
