The sale of adult-use recreational marijuana is legal in Illinois on Wednesday at 6 a.m.

A line was formed outside of Herbal Remedies Dispensary on 4440 Broadway in Quincy early Wednesday.

One person in line said, "I want to be a part of history."

Many were sitting outside bundled up in blankets and sitting in lawn chairs.

The store plans to open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Herbal Remedies said bring a state ID and sales will be cash only.

Staff said they will limit the number of people in the dispensary at one time and they will have a limited supply during the first few weeks.

They eventually plan to expand online sales but it is not available at this time.

Lawmakers passed the bill in May last year in Springfield, Illinois.

Possession of up to once ounce (30 grams) would be allowed for residents.

Non-residents could possess 15 grams.

Also to note, Rise Dispensary on 2730 Broadway will not be open on Wednesday.

A sign was posted on the door saying "due to state in-capabilities, we will not be open on January 1, 2020. Sorry for the inconvenience, opening day to be announced soon!"

The sign posted on the door outside of Rise Dispensary on 2703 Broadway in Quincy.
Rise Dispensary does not plan to open on January 1.
