Burglary suspect arrested, over $100K in stolen property recovered

MACOMB (WGEM) — McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout has reported the arrest of Tom Harmon, 39, of Burlington, Iowa.

Petitgout stated that on Saturday deputies responded to a burglary in progress at 21654 East 200th Street in rural Blandinsville Township. 

The owner of the property called 911 while he was watching a burglar break into his machine shed on a live surveillance video.

Deputies responded to the area and were unable to locate the suspect or the vehicle, a silver Chevy Impala.

Approximately $14,000.00 of tools was stolen from the machine shed.

On Tuesday morning a Warren County deputy captured Harman while he was burglarizing a machine she near Swan Creek in rural Warren County near the McDonough County line.  Harman was driving a silver Chevy Impala.  McDonough County deputies and detectives responded to assist the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. 

Since Saturday detectives from McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, the Macomb Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Police Department, and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office have recovered over $100,000.00 worth of stolen property in Burlington and Henderson County Illinois.

The Macomb Police Department, McDonough County Sheriff’s Office and the Burlington Police all have pending charges on Harmon.

It is suspected at this time that Harman committed another burglar months ago along the same road in rural Blandinsville Township.

A second suspect has been named and more charges are pending.
