Friday the entire area is under a Winter Weather Advisory. Let's set the stage and then break down the forecast. Temperatures on Friday morning will already be cold enough to support snow. There is a winter storm that will gathering momentum overnight near the Oklahoma panhandle. This storm will begin to swing northwest throughout the overnight hours. By Friday morning around 6 am it will be snowing in Central Missouri. The snow will develop from the west snowing first in Northeast Missouri around 7 am Friday. Snow should be in the Quincy area around 9 am. the snow onset could be delayed by dry air that is in place. But rest assured the snow will overcome the dry air and the area will see between 1 and 3 inches of snow. With snow ending around 3 pm. BUT wait, there is more. Temps will be rising throughout the day so the snow will change over to sleet and freezing rain creating even more slick and hazardous road conditions. There is some concern for ice accumulation on tree branches along with gusty winds that may cause power outages as the evening wears on. The window fro the sleet and freezing rain is from approximately 1 pm Friday through about 9 pm Friday. BUT Wait, there is more...the freezing rain will flip over to all rain overnight Friday night and continue until early Saturday morning. But wait, there is more. Temps will begin to fall on Saturday as frigid air plunges down out of Canada dropping Sunday morning lows to the single digits to near zero in some locations. The frigid temps may cause the development of black ice.
