Tax season is approaching and the United Way of Adams County is in need of people for their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
People can sign up to become greeters, basic/advance tax experts and help make reminder calls.
Training is offered for people wanting to volunteer and officials say it can be a fun way to give back and help people with their financial security.
VITA is for taxpayers whose household earn $56,000 or less.
Official say the program places extra emphasis on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which is a tax reduction and a wage supplement for low and moderate income individuals and working families.
In 2019, 1,132 individuals or families used the VITA program to file their federal and state income taxes, resulting in $1,900,000 in refunds in the Tri-State area, according to the United Way.
