Canton firefighters say the bitter cold made fighting two separate house fires more difficult early Monday morning.
Canton Fire Chief Joe LaCount said the fires happened at 309 North 3rd Street and on the 1100 block of College Street.
The fire on North 3rd Street broke out at 1:30 a.m. Officials said four people home at the time were able to safely make it out.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
The city public works department had to lay down salt around the home to help firefighters dealing with ice-covered roads and sidewalks.
Crews were also called to a house fire on College Street at 12:30 a.m.
LaCount said it was a small fire in the attic. The cause remains under investigation.
The family did make it out safely. The homeowner said the attic was a total loss and electrical repairs must be done before they can return.
