Fall Harvest Food Drive

WGEM continued its partnership with the Salvation Army for the annual Fall Harvest Food Drive. Greg Harley from WGEM-FM broadcast live outside of our studios with Lana Reed to raise awareness for the need to supply area food pantries.

Fall Harvest Food Drive School Challenge

As part of the Fall Harvest Food Drive, area schools competed in the School Challenge. The top area school that collected the most food items total and the school who collected the most food items per student each received $1,000.00. Scotland County Elementary School was the school with the most food items collected and was presented with a check from Marketing Manager Shawn Dickerman.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin came to Quincy in October to discuss saving the Quincy Bay. His first stop was an interview with Greg Harley on WGEM-FM News Talk Live.

Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden

In addition to having visits from Senators Durbin and Congressman Darin LaHood, evening anchor Alexandra Carter traveled to Lee County Iowa to cover the visit of Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden

Newsroom Ribbon Cutting

We hosted an official ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce to showcase the newly remodeled lower level at WGEM. This space is home to our Creative Services, Engineering and News departments and was the result of a great collaboration between architects, engineers and contractors. We also have a large conference room and break room in the lower level for all employees to use.

WGEM and the Herald-Whig Annual Scholarship

WGEM and the Herald Whig presented their annual scholarship at the John Wood Community College Agricultural Scholarship Awards Dinner. Intended to support careers in our areas agriculture industry, this year’s recipient was Kacie McCleery shown here with WGEM General Manager Carlos Fernandez.

Josh Houchins Scholarship

We were honored to once again offer a Culver Stockton College student a scholarship in the name of our former colleague, Josh Houchins. Josh’s mother was present, as she has been every year, to be a part of the announcement along with Marketing Manager Shawn Dickerman.

Mark Twain Museum Videos

We continue to work on various community projects. We are working with the Mark Twain Museum on videos for the homes that make up the museum.

Quincy Grand Prix of Karting Video

We are producing a promotional video along with Terry Traeder on the Quincy Grand Prix of Karting in order to bring a national sponsor to this event that will take place in June of 2020.

Fort Madison Elementary School Weather Class

WGEM Meteorologist Chelsea Smith spoke with students at Fort Madison Elementary School about her interest in tracking weather and becoming a Meteorologist.

Junior Achievement PSA

With the assistance of students at St. Peter School, we created a public service announcement for Junior Achievement.

Bucket Blitz

WGEM and the Salvation Army teamed up for another successful Bucket Blitz which helps to raise money for services for those in need. WGEM held several live weather broadcasts from the site of the collection headquarters

During the Blitz, WGEM News Talk Live broadcasted from the collection site.

Wreaths Across America

Morning anchors Natalie Will and Don Dwyer along with General Manager Carlos Fernandez participated in the Wreaths Across America event at the Quincy National Cemetery. They each read the names of those interred at the cemetery as wreaths were laid on every gravesite.
