Son charged with murder in father’s beating death

PONTOOSUC, Ill. (WGEM) — Charging documents claim Andrew DeHaven used a hammer to beat his father, Michael DeHaven, to death Monday morning.

The documents allege that Andrew DeHaven struck his father, Michael DeHaven in the head multiple times with a hammer.

The documents do not reveal a motive for the death, which shocked the community of Pontoosuc, Illinois.

Andrew has been charged with 3 counts of First Degree Murder.

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger said that Andrew was living with Michael at 690 4th St. in Pontoosuc.

He said that on Monday Andrew told a neighbor that he had killed his father and asked the neighbor to call 911 at around 8:30 a.m.

Bentzinger said Andrew surrendered to police when they arrived.
