Fort Madison business to host open house

A Fort Madison business owner is hosting an open house for local businesses to come together and create a stronger community.

10th Street owner Dave Taylor said he's organizing the open house for downtown businesses on Thursday to network and see where everyone is at.

Taylor said he's worried about the way retail trends are going.

He said it's important local businesses don't get left behind.

"If we don't find ways to work with the new shopping trends with the next generation we're going to start closing down and I don't want that to happen," he said. "Our community is a little too valuable for that."

Taylor said Fort Madison has too much to offer to residents and visitors for local businesses to not take advantage.

"We have the worlds largest wingspan bridge, we've got the prison, we've got the riverboats coming in that we could really be shifting the dynamics to new markets."

Taylor said the meeting will take place Thursday at 6 p.m. at 827 Avenue H.

He said those interested can RSVP by calling him or 10th Street.
