(WGEM) — On Tuesday residents voted 73% against a $17 million bond to build a new high school in the Illini West School District.

The estimated cost for a new high school was $33 million. The school bond would have covered $17 million and the state would have covered $16 million.

The new school would have cost taxpayers around 85 cents per $100 in assessed value.

The current Illini West High School building is leased from the Carthage Elementary District. The school district had a study conducted and it found it would cost $22 million to fix the current issues in the building.
