RUSHVILLE, Ill. (WGEM) — The Schuyler County Health Department (SCHD) is reaching out to request homemade face mask donations for situations where protection is desired but N95 masks may not be necessary.
SCHD at 233 N Congress St in Rushville, Illinois is the collection site for donations Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Officials state there is a collection box at the front entrance with copies of a pattern that has a filter insert pocket.
These donated masks are being distributed to healthcare workers.
SCHD officials stated the department "is collaborating with the entire community for a unified response to the COVID-19 pandemic; we are counting on you, our community members, for some of the most important work to be done."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a recommendation to wear a face mask when interacting in the public where social distancing is difficult. Wearing simple homemade cloth face coverings can keep people who may be carrying the disease without showing symptoms from transmitting it to others.
Guidance for making and cleaning sewn & non-sewn cloth face covers can be found on the CDC website www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV under “How to Protect Yourself."
