Sheriff Brian VonderHaar said administration and deputies have already moved in while the Quincy Police Department and inmates are expected to move in sometime next month.

He said the facility will be much safer for all at the new facility.

“This new facility will create a better atmosphere for the inmates as well as our CO’s working this. The old facility we had was an extremely dangerous facility and was not really built to house the amount of inmates that we were having to house,” Vonderhaar said.

VonderHaar said they have spent the last several months training in the new facility.

“The main thing is, before we move over we want to make sure we have pretty good handle on how on to operate this. This is a night and day from the old facility so a lot of technology here. We need to make sure our guys are up to speed before we actually make that move," he said.
