For the first time in 29 years a Gus Macker annual basketball tournament didn't kick off Quincy's Memorial Day weekend.

Gus Macker Co-Chair Perry Terwelp with the Quincy Exchange Club said they planned to go out with a bang this year as it was scheduled to be their last year hosting but that didn't happen.

"Just following the state guidelines, can't have more than 10 people so we generally have 400 teams so there's 1200 people and then with everybody else walking around the park we have over 2,000 people in a confined space so it just wasn't going to work this year," he said.

Terwelp said they're planning to hold the tournament next year and hoping everything's back to normal by Memorial Day 2021.
