QUINCY, IL (WGEM) - With the heat and humidity creeping up the next several days, your air conditioning unit may be working extra hard, and the repair process is changing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local experts from Peters Heating and Air Conditioning said to help avoid any problems with your AC make sure the filters are cleaned.

With indoor units, check that the condensate drains are clear. You should remove any landscaping or debris that’s on outdoor units. They said their technicians are taking extra precautions when going to homes to fix units.

“All of our guys, our service technicians, that come to your home they have masks, they have hand sanitizer," said Adams Peters with Peters Heating and Air Conditioning. "We’ve staggered their start times here at the office.”

He said repair time could be a couple of days out sine they are still repairing units from Memorial Day Weekend.

“It should be pretty crazy within the next several days," he said. "The last heatwave we got kinda got everything started. So, if you haven’t turned them on, I would suggest giving them a quick turn on to make sure it’ll start when you need it.”
