QUINCY, IL (WGEM) - A severe thunderstorm rolled through Quincy on Sunday bringing destructive winds and creating tree damage.

Larry Brumbaugh, the owner of Brumbaugh Tree Service, said while trees aren't storm-proof there are preventative measures you can take to decrease the threat of tree damage that could damage your property or your family.

"Have your trees cleaned out, have them trimmed, have them looked at by a certified arborist that knows the proper trimming of the trees and how to care for the trees," he said.

He said it will take about two to three days to clean up the trees and limbs.

"Right now trees are in full foliage and when you get the weight of the leaves plus the weight of the rain plus the wind it's pretty much gonna cause damage a lot of times, but if you do keep them thinned out they're not near as heavy," Brumbaugh said.

He said while there have been holes in roofs and damage to gutters, there hasn't been major tree damage.
