Culver-Stockton College Athletic Director Pat Atwell announced earlier today that Derek Sapp has been named the college's men’s and women’s head bowling coach.
Sapp replaces Jerry Ulrich, who was the program’s inaugural head coach and served in that capacity from 2014-2020. Sapp, co-owner and assistant manager at Arrowhead Bowl in Keokuk, Iowa, has bowled at every level, from high school to the Pro Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour.
He was a member of two collegiate national championship teams at Western Illinois University in 2001 and 2002 while being named the 2001 and 2002 Intercollegiate Bowling Championships most valuable player. He earned All-America honors four straight years, including three first team selections.
Sapp has also bowled internationally, winning three gold medals representing the United States of America in competitions in the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and Costa Rica. Sapp is a seven-time PBA regional champion and the 2008 Midwest PBA Bowler of the Year. He was exempt for the 2009-10 PBA season.
Sapp earned a business management/human resource degree from Western Illinois in 2003.
