QUINCY (WGEM) — The Quincy Police Department reported on Wednesday that it has noted a significant increase in stolen vehicle reports since the beginning of June.

Police stated since June 6, officers have taken ten stolen vehicle reports. Many of these reports involve vehicles that were unlocked and some had the keys left in the vehicle.

Police added several of the vehicles have been recovered and recovery locations range from Chicago, Loraine Missouri, Adams County, and Quincy.

Police stated most of the thefts occurred on the west end of Quincy, west of 12th Street.

Police said it is currently unknown if the thefts are isolated incidents or part of a more organized operation.

Vehicle thefts and vehicle burglaries are often crimes of opportunity. Police said if you own a vehicle it is recommended that you secure the vehicle when not in use.

It's also recommended that you remove the keys along with any other valuables that may attract attention.

Police ask that if you see any suspicious activity, please call Quincy Police at 217-222-9360 or dial 911.
