Tri-State drivers excited about low gas prices during holiday travel

(WGEM) - For those that are traveling, you'll be happy to know that gas prices are lowest they've been since 2004.

A report from Gas Buddy said COVID-19 is the reason behind it.

The report said the national average is $2.22 per gallon.

One family making a trip to Iowa for racing this weekend said the low prices will help their wallet and holiday budget.

"It helps a bunch," said Eric Booher who is making the trip to Iowa. "I mean a couple of years ago when gas prices were $3 and $4 per gallon it was really hard. So now that it's down to about $2 per gallon it makes it a lot easier to travel."

Gas buddy predicts the price and demand for gas will increase into Labor Day Weekend.

Plus, it's hurricane season, and that means it could raise gas prices dramatically.
