QUINCY (WGEM) — Quincy Notre Dame High School officials have confirmed two football players have tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
QND Athletic Director Bill Connell said they've suspended all football operations while they evaluate the situation.
"There will be nothing that happens football related at Quincy Notre Dame tomorrow in the weight room or on the football field," he said.
Connell said he was informed of the positive tests around 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
"Parents notified our head coach and then he notified me," he said.
Cannell said they've since informed the team as well as the workout groups the players were involved in.
He said the school will be consulting with the Adams County Health Department for guidance on next steps.
"We will obviously be working with them tomorrow," he said.
Connell said he is expecting players to be tested but it probably won't be able to take place until Monday
"I believe a lot of the additional testing that will take place will start occurring tomorrow just because of the July 4 holiday," he said.
He said while they're anxious to keep preparing for the season, there are steps that need to be taken.
"We do have to make sure we're following by their [Adams County Health Department] guidelines and regulations and obviously the IHSA guidelines and regulations," Connell said.
Connell said the school will also notify the IHSA of the positive tests on Monday.
