RALLS COUNTY, Mo. (WGEM) — Northeast Missouri law enforcement is urging drivers to be careful in construction zones.
The Ralls County Sheriffs department said drivers need to put down their phones and pay attention to the posted speed limits when driving through work zones.
They said traffic patterns can get confusing during construction and it's something drivers have to be aware of.
"If you notice they've already started putting to put up barricades and change some things up at 61 and 19 so there's going to be a lot of changing things, not just for the local folks who're used to these traffic patterns but also the motoring public that's traveling through," Chief Deputy Ron Haught said.
Haught said fines can double or possibly triple in construction zones.
"We live together, we work together, we need to be safe together. So when were traveling around, whether you're local and used to the scenario or somebody traveling through everybody needs to be diligent because we all want to go home at the end of the day," he said.
Haught said those who hit a worker could possibly face felony charges.
