QUINCY (WGEM) — After a child nearly drowned in a backyard Quincy pool over the 4th of July weekend, local firefighters are reminding how fragile water safety at home can be.
Officials at the Quincy fire department say it's important to always have eyes on children in home swimming pools, even if they know how to swim.
They also say its a good idea to be pro-active if you have the opportunity to learn life saving techniques.
"I would advise having somebody, if not everybody in your household take a CPR class just to prepare for an emergency," said Quincy firefighter Michael Dade. "In case one were to happen, just do your research."
Dade also says regardless of age, you should never swim alone.
