QUINCY, IL (WGEM) - Do you have a car seat laying around? Saturday is your chance to get rid of it properly.
Safe Kids of Adams County will be collecting and disposing of car seats. The Car Seat Round-Up event will take place at the health department from 10 am to noon. Officials said an expired car seat is just one of the reasons why you should choose to throw yours away.
"If a car seat has been in a car accident, it needs to be thrown away," said Pam Porter, Safe Kids of Adams County Coordinator. "Your insurance should reimburse you for that seat If it's been in storage and not been used, it needs to be thrown away."
She said they can't guarantee the safety of the plastic.
"Car seats are like anything else. The plastic will break down through the use of being in the hot and cold cars throughout the years, they're normally only good for 6 years."
She said to drop off your car seat the entrance to the health department off of Vermont street. She asked that you remain in your car and they will remove the car seat from the back or trunk. Also, you should limit the number of people in your car.
