Monday marked day one of football camp for the Fort Madison Bloodhounds.
Head football coach Derek Doherty explained what camp consists of.
"We have two days of defensive installments and two days of offensive installments."
Doherty would add, "It's a little more urgency now with camp, tightening down things and really just pushing forward."
To finish off camp, the Bloodhounds will host the Central Lee Hawks in a 7 on 7 match-up on Friday.
"Oh they love it, anytime that they can compete they're going to be excited so Friday should be fun," Doherty said.
Fort Madison will only be in helmets this week and Coach Doherty has plans in place to follow the COVID-19 guidelines.
"Our district came up with all of our guidelines, we're going to read them to them, we read them to them everyday. We did it during kids camp and middle school camp and just try to remind them to keep their distance and during our drink breaks we go and sanitize, wash hands that type of stuff." he said.
Even though they're only in helmets, senior defensive back and running back Calen Maclearn, will take it after a month of workouts.
"It will be nice, it's a good change of pace with the helmet on. It's nice especially knowing its a good possibility of a season and having camp, it's nice, it's fun."
However, when official practices start Monday, August 10th, the bloodhounds will be in full pads and Senior Quarterback Will Larson knows what his team is looking forward to the most.
"Its going to be going crazy, I know a bunch of people can't wait to hit people, no matter if it's our team. Just excited to hit people."
Fort Madison is set to host West Burlington in week 1 on August 28th.
