JWCC Director of Athletics Brad Hoyt announced earlier today that Andy Gronewold has been selected as the new women’s softball coach.

In addition, the college announces that current assistant coach AJ Smith has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Coach Smith has been integral in the past few months working with returning and incoming
student-athletes within the softball program.

Coach Gronewold replaces Coach Merle Jones, who
resigned this past Spring following his 3rd season at the helm of the Lady Blazers Softball program.

Gronewold was most recently the head coach at Illini West High School, leading that program from 2012-2016. He has worked with area pitchers and individual programs throughout the area, including the John Wood softball program, since 2016.

In his tenure at the helm of the Lady Chargers, he lead the team to 5 regional championship game appearances, winning two Region
titles. He also has a career head coaching record of 116-52.

The Lady Blazers had their season come to an end due to the COVID-19 pandemic this past Spring. John Wood CC closed out the season with an (11-6) record.
