Friday was the start of the Quincy Tennis Association's Mixed Open Doubles Championship.
The event is Friday through Sunday at Quincy University and Reservoir Park.
The tournament is the last of three that the Quincy Tennis Association puts on every year.
In the first round of the Mixed Open Doubles:
The defending mixed open doubles champions, Heidi Holzgrafe and Zach Willing took on Audra Cain and Jim Pitney.
Willing and Holzgrafe had their serves working today as they won 6-0, 6-1.
The team spoke on what worked for them on the court Friday.
"I think Zach returned really well, we both served really well, so it was just making sure we were aggressive and attacking the net as much as possible," Holzgrafe said.
"Mainly just keep the ball in play, make them play and then take it from there," Willing added.
Jenny Hill and Noah Aschemann played against the 2nd seeded team of Ethan Arns and Anna Konczak.
Arns and Konczak would take the victory, in their first match as teammates by the score of 6-1, 6-2.
The team discussed what their plan was for their first match together.
"I think just working together. We both crash in for the ball a lot. So, just kind of having someone there, don't run into each other and keep moving," Konczak said.
Arns would add, "Just moving a lot and keeping the ball in play. Obviously it's windy out so the best thing to do is keep the ball low, get to the net and put it away."
Monica Hinkamper and Jeff Zellerman won via forfeit by Clair Moore and Caleb Vonderheide.
Caleb Hoffman and Jamie Steinkamp took on Lia Quintero and Sean Robertson.
Robertson and Quintero won by the score 6-3, 6-4.
