MoDOT officials are asking motorists to be safe on Highway 24 in Marion county, Missouri next Tuesday as multiple southbound bridges will be undergoing maintenance.

MoDOT officials said the south bound bridges over the South Fabius and North rivers will be getting a new layer of oil put over them.

They're are asking motorists to be mindful of workers throughout the day as they work on the bridges.

"So similar to our roads, these bridges need to have a layer of oil, put on them, to keep the moisture out, it helps extend the life of the bridge. The oil seals the the top layer of the bridge. It keeps water, salt in the winter out. And again, it helps extend the life of the bridge and keeps it from forming potholes," said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt.

He said the work on both bridges should be done by the end of the day Tuesday weather permitting.
