If you're driving through Macomb, you'll see a new Abraham Lincoln statue in front of city hall.
Executive Director of the Macomb Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Jock Hedblade said the statue is the centerpiece for an upcoming Lincoln self self guided tour.
He said the built the 15x8 foot statue to highlight the sites that Lincoln has visited in McDonough County back in the 1800's.
He said it adds a feature to the community that hopefully brings people to town.
"We knew we had a good looking Lincoln story but we wanted something that was a curiousity, something big, something different, something modern," Hedblade said. "We hope this is the thing that will make people want to take a trip to Macomb and check it out. Once they're here, they learn about Lincoln and the other stories we have to tell."
"One of the most important things about Macomb is that the city of Macomb has been changing for a long time," WIU Art Professor and statue builder Duke Oursler said. "We see all these changes happening. Changes in how we organize our lives, so we wanted to do something that would cause some change and use some different types of materials and do something that's totally different."
Hedblade said they hope to launch the Lincoln tour sometime in the spring.
