QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - A program that helps low-income residents keep the heat on this winter is expanding to help more families this year.

Two Rivers Regional Council officials said there are $1.7 million available from their low-income home energy assistance program.

This year there is a change to income restrictions so families affected by the pandemic can get help.

You should apply before June 30, 2021 as funds are on a first come first served basis.

"We go back 30 days on income, and we go by gross. So, if there's one person in the household, their monthly income could not exceed $2,127, and that increases depending on how many is in your family," said TRRC community service director Becky Pruden.

She noted the amount you receive is based on the type of heating you have, your income, and how many people are in your household.

She says call (217) 224-8171 to apply.
