MACOMB (WGEM) -- McDonough County health officials are getting some help to get a handle on the COVID-19 situation in Macomb.
The McDonough County Health Department and Macomb Public Works are testing wastewater for COVID-19.
Chris Adams is the Environmental Health Director. He said the data is helping get a better picture of COVID-19 in the community, instead of just relying on people getting tested.
“Help us before the cases and that’s what they’re doing here. We’re collecting the samples to allow us to get a baseline. So in even in the future, it will prepare us for any future activity with the COVID-19 virus.”
Health department officials said they use this data to better determine where they need to focus their efforts from a public awareness standpoint.
