QUINCY (WGEM) -- On Wednesday the Board of Great River Honor Flight shared the latest information regarding future Honor Flights which remain dependent on the COVID-19 restrictions which are still applicable.
The below guidelines are based on input from Honor Flight National which oversee all Honor Flight Hubs throughout the US as well as any local considerations we must take into account here in our Tri State region.
Honor Flight National has put a suspension on scheduling any missions thru June 30. We understand this brings disappointment to many of the local veterans who remain on our waiting list. The delay gives the Honor Flight program time to receive additional information on memorial openings, vaccination schedules and the new Biden Administration guidelines. We continue to await guidance from the D.C. Park Police (who provide our escorts in DC), Arlington Cemetery, Memorials, Airlines, Bus Companies, Food Vendors, and Airports as well as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The Great River Honor Flight Board stated it is also awaiting guidelines from the medical field as to what needs to be considered/coordinated with the many agencies with respect to masks, social distancing, vaccinations, sanitization, etc.
The board stated safety remains its number one priority. Providing a memorable experience is number two.
The board stated it will advise as to when flights can resume.
