QUINCY (WGEM) -- Dozens of volunteers gathered in Quincy on Sunday to handmake beds for Tri-State kids in need.

Volunteer said they're part of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national non-profit organization that builds beds for kids who don't have a proper sleeping space.

This is the second year the Liberty area group has come together to build beds.

Core team member Mike Milhauser said their goal was to construct at least 20 beds.

"We donate beds to children in the area that are sleeping on the floor, who may not have a bed of their own," he said. "When we go to the home we supply the bed, the mattress, the bedding, and everything so that when we're done they have a complete bed."

SHP volunteers start by sanding the wood for the beds, then they assemble the bed and stain the bed for a finished look.

The group said they are always in need of volunteers.
