CANTON, Missouri (WGEM) -- Road construction season is just getting started and there has already been a crash.

Canton, Missouri MoDOT Maintenance Supervisor, Robert Deters said a vehicle hit one of their TMA's and then hit a their truck.

The TMA is a device attached to the back of their trucks to prevent crewman from getting hit while working.

He said the device did its job and protected workers, but it's a reminder that drivers must slow down and pay attention.

"In this case especially, it probably saved some injuries of our crew members. Without that TMA there, there's a real good possibility somebody would've got run over or hit," Deters said.

Deters said the TMA is totaled and will cost the at-fault driver $40-thousand plus other fines for the crash in a work zone.
