QUINCY (WGEM) -- Quincy Police said Tuesday that they were investigating an incident that happened at The Barn nightclub at 711 South Front St. over the weekend.
The investigation was launched after a Quincy University student Jazzpher Evans, 19, said she was attacked and injured at the nightclub on early Sunday morning.
Evans told WGEM News that she was visiting the club with friends when a man put her in a headlock, shoved her to the ground and left her with bruises and cuts on her face.
Quincy Police Chief Rob Copley said the incident involved the club owner.
"While I cannot go into details of our investigation at this time, I want to assure everyone that it is being thoroughly investigated. At the completion of the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken," Copley said.
Quincy University President Brian McGee stated the university will do everything to make certain "this assault is fully investigated."
"There is still more to learn about the details of the assault, and Quincy University is cooperating and will continue to cooperate fully with the police and with any other investigation of this assault that may occur. If any students or other individuals know anything about this assault, we urge them to come forward and tell the authorities what they know. If you were there, you are involved, and you cannot avoid becoming involved. Our amnesty policy protects students who come forward, and students who do so will not be subject to the university’s accountability process. You can contact Dr. Tracy or Mr. Lathrop, or you can call the Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers number at 217-228-4474," McGee wrote in a statement.
Quincy Police are asking if anyone has video of any portion of the incident to contact the police department.
WGEM News' efforts to reach The Barn management on Tuesday were unsuccessful. A message left for the owner was not immediately returned.
