MACOMB (WGEM) -- Pet owners in McDonough County now have help if you can't afford your pet's food, toys and medicines.
The McDonough County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director, Edgar Rodriguez said on Friday, April 9, they will give away free pet food, toys, clothes, pet doors, and more, to shelters and pet food pantries.
Then come Saturday, April 10, anyone who can't afford to buy what their pets need can show up.
Rodriguez said Chewy has donated pallets of food to the Chicago land area, but the need is also prevalent here.
"To support some of the families that have been affected by COVID-19 imagine if you don't have income for your own meals, your pets are also suffering. This is another way we can reach out to the community," Rodriguez said.
He said you must register by midnight tonight if you are shelter and want to take part in the distribution.
If you are a community member, you can just show up Saturday for their drive-thru.
Both events will be at Tanner Hall Circle at WIU on Friday between 8 and 12 and on Saturday from 9 to 12.
He said the possibility of more events like this will be determined by the demand at this event.
