ADAMS COUNTY., IL (WGEM) -- The recent warm up has allowed local farmers to start planning for spring planting season and that means you'll start seeing more farm equipment on the roads.
Jonathon Pollock with Martin Tractor in Adams County said they see crashes every year involving farm equipment and other vehicles.
He says for every crash, there are even more dangerous close calls.
“I grew up on a farm, so I’ve been in the seat and in the car behind this stuff. So yeah you have to be really careful, especially around guard rails. If we get pinned in by a guard rail we have no place to go but over and if you’re stuck there you’re not going to win that fight."
Pollock adds that the biggest cause of vehicle and farm equipment crashes is drivers trying to pass those vehicles too fast.
He said being patient will create safer roads for everyone.
“This time of year, leave ten minutes earlier. If you get stuck behind a tractor for 5 or 10 minutes on a windy road, there’s just no safe place to pass. You’ll just have to be patient and have to wait.”
Pollock said look out for a reflective orange triangle on equipment.
That should be your sign to slow down.
