FORT MADISON (WGEM) -- The Tri-States Rodeo announced their entertainment lineup on Friday morning.
The lineup remained mostly unchanged from last year, with Nelly headlining Thursday night and David Lee Murphy and Mark Chestnutt on Friday night.
But organizers said they said changes had to be made for Saturday night.
"Last year you may remember we had Trace Adkins, now Trace is unavailable," Tri-State Rodeo Media Chairman Gary Gleichman said. "So we moved in Cole Swindell so the lineup is spectacular."
Organizers said they're looking forward to a star-studded couple of days."
"We expect to see a huge crowd as well in fact we're looking for a sell out each one of the nights," Gleichman said.
Local businesses said they're excited for the return of the rodeo and out of town customers.
"It's great," Under the Sun owner Ron Barnes said. "We get a lot of people, especially during the parade."
Barnes said it'll help the new businesses that have opened their doors this past year.
"We have about two or three new restaurants in town and it brings in people from all over," he said. "The more businesses you have downtown, the better it is for everybody."
Rodeo officials said it wasn't an easy decision to cancel last year's rodeo just five days out.
"Simply because we didn't know what COVID was doing," Gleichman said.
He said this years they'll be watching the local coronavirus situation closely, working with local authorities and health officials and putting in place all the safety precaution they feel are necessary.
"Keep everyone safe. That's the main goal. To have a good time and bring in back stronger and better than ever," Gleichman said.
This year's rodeo is set for September 8, 9, 10 and 11th.
