QUINCY (WGEM) -- You could be one of the new runners who helps one local fundraising run reach new goals.
The annual Quincy-to-Peoria St. Jude run is back in 2021 after a limited run due to COVID-19 in 2020.
Organizers kicked it off Friday at St. Francis Parish in Quincy.
Runners have to get a minimum of a $1,000 sponsorship to take part.
Quincy to Peoria St. Jude Run Coordinator, Becky Haskins, said they want to make enough money this year to reach their lifetime goal of $1.5 million, so they need new runners to do that.
"It is not about the running, first of all. I know it sounds like a very daunting task. It is about the kids and it's about the fundraising. That's the first and foremost, " Haskins said.
"You can run as little or as much as you want or we do need volunteers [to help run the event]."
The run is July 16.
Organizers said every penny goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which researches and treats childhood disease, especially cancer, free of cost for the patients and their families.
