HANNIBAL (WGEM) -- Local healthcare providers expressed disappointment Friday after Gov. Parson announced Thursday that Missouri would not move forward with Medicaid expansion.
It's an issue that affects some 9,000 people in our region alone.
Hannibal Clinic officials said they respect that it's a complicated situation to deal with for lawmakers, especially since they are legally bound to balance the budget.
Still, Hannibal Clinic Administrator Randy Jobe said they are hopeful that a solution to fund the expanded Medicaid could come about.
"It's important for the long-term future that we find a solution for the funding of this that is, in fact, a good solution," Jobe said. "So, realizing it is complex and we certainly want to be a part of that solution."
Last August, Missouri voters approved a constitutional amendment to add thousands of more people to the state's Medicaid program.
Many lawmakers think the issue will now head to the state's courts.
