Macomb teen accused of setting fire to her home

MACOMB (WGEM) -- A 14-year-old Macomb girl has been charged with Aggravated Arson after police alleged she set fire to her home and fled the scene.

Macomb Police stated they were called to a fire in the 700 block of West Calhoun Street Friday morning around 8 a.m.

Once on scene police said they observed flames coming out of the front door of the home and were able to assist multiple children out of the back door safely.

Police said they used fire extinguishers to put out the fire and prevent any further structural damage.

Police reported the Macomb Fire Department arrived on the scene and conducted a search of the home to confirm that there was nobody still inside the home.

Officers said the homeowners told them their 14-year-old daughter was not inside or at the scene and was presumed to be missing.

Police said an investigation provided evidence that the fire was intentionally started by the 14-year-old and that she and attempted to flee the scene in a family car but was unsuccessful.

Police said the car had structural damage and was still parked at the residence.

Police said the girl was later found and arrested.

Police reported that nobody was injured during the fire.
