HANNIBAL (WGEM) -- Leaders in the Tri-States gathered Thursday for the annual Housing Summit to educated renters and potential home buyers.

Northeast Community Action Corporation, NECAC, hosted the event at the Y'Men's Pavillion in downtown Hannibal.

Organizers talked about the big issues with buying and renting houses at affordable prices in the area.

Executive Director Mike Norris said there will always be a need.

"That feeling of helping is a great one. Especially when we have great outcomes when people tell their stories and talk a little about their lives after they've worked with us, and also maybe how they've helped other people too."

The summit is a partnership between NECAC, the Two Rivers Regional Council, the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission, the Tri-State Development Summit and NeighborWorks America.

NECAC helps individuals and families by providing USDA loans and grants, down payment plans, and renter assistance.
