The Quincy Gems came into tonight's contest against O'Fallon with high hopes of locking up their third straight win, but that dream simply did not materialize at QU Stadium. The (4-9) Gems were held to just 6 hits in 9 innings of action.
The Hoots pounded out 10 hits in "The Gem City" and they managed to score 1 run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings to take an early lead over Quincy. After scoring 3 runs in the 7th, it appeared that the Hoots were on the way to a shutout win before the Gems scored their lone run of the night in the bottom half of the frame. After 9 innings, the Gems lost 5 to 1 on their home turf.
Quincy starter Brant Houge took the loss. The Gems will return to action on the road on Friday against Alton. The last time Quincy faced the River Dragons on Wednesday, the Gems pounded out an impressive 16-4 win in just 8 innings (thanks to the PL's 10-Run Mercy Rule). First pitch tonight in Alton, Illinois is set for 6:35 p.m.
