QUINCY (WGEM) -- For anyone planning on grilling this weekend, there will be a new local spice to choose from.

J.R.'s Seasoning was created by John Rupp after he was inspired by spices from an old Mexican restaurant in town.

"Started about 30 years ago, there used to be a small restaurant here in town called Santino's It was a Mexican restaurant, but they had the best steak here in town. I felt like it had good seasoning. So I just kept working at it and working at it to perfect what they had," he said.

After using the homemade seasoning for family and friends, his son Bryce decided to market it.

Within the last week, the seasoning has appeared on store shelves inside all Quincy Hy-Vees and County Markets.

Bryce said he hopes to get the spice into Walmart in the coming weeks.
